This is a new design featuring baby and adult sea turtle ceramic tiles in a pastel beach design. The herons behave themselves as the babies work their way through the sand safely to the water. The pastel pallet for this ceramic tile mosaic was custom, as are all of our mosaic tile designs. The different shaped tiles create texture and depth. The water is clearly defined between the sky and the beach by using a medium thick wavy tile.
This large sea turtle / beach panel is a wall mosaic for a home in Galveston, Texas. The picture below shows a close-up of the detail on the turtle shaped mosaic tiles.
The baby sea turtle tiles above are about 4" in size. I particularly like the new front view momma sea turtle-shaped tile at the top of the picture. Picture yourself on a beach with sand dollars and shells at your feet. A heron stands to the left in a bed of cattails and grasses. To the right, a sandpiper stands in the sand near a piece of driftwood, while a mother sea turtle and her offspring follow in tow. The client ordered two custom ceramic tile back splashes. One was a tropical ceramic tile backsplash with a gorgeous brunette mermaid mosaic tile. The other order was this lovely beach mosaic tile backsplash for behind a vanity in their bathroom.
What was master tile artist, Diane H. Holycross' inspiration? The client sent a mesh mounted coral tile swatch.
"I carefully examined the color spectrum of the coral and determined it was a white, off-white, tan, and cream mix of colors." The coral had small divots, which could be represented with a cobblestone glaze technique." "I felt the main elements should be the darker tones, so I used a cream-based clay." The background tiles a off-white-based clay."
The crab ceramic tile and shell tile shown above are a good example of how a simple monochrome coloring can make a big statement.
This is the mother ceramic tile mosaic turtle. There are three baby turtle tiles in tow, all of which can be viewed in a picture shown above. This 12' tall x 48" long, narrow mosaic tile beach backsplash uses a mix of cattail / bull rush tiles, a crab shaped tile, a sand dollar, three seahorses, a few shell tiles, two flounder shaped tiles, and a clam shell. These were selected based on customer specifications. As were the handmade ceramic tile colors.

It includes a couple of hermit crab ceramic tiles, cattail ceramic tiles, a lobster ceramic tile, starfish tile, and a couple of shell tiles in this mosaic tile design.

Note: this is a studio layout and the picture was created from four pictures that were pasted together...it was a very large fireplace.design lesson Our client Barbie W. sent us this picture of her bathroom remodel. She expressed an interest in having a coral reef ceramic tile scene on the back walls of this shower. She wanted a shaped treasure chest tile, mosaic tile shark, school of sea turtle tiles, and much more in a unique handmade ceramic tile mosaic. From this picture, Diane Holycross, master tile artist of Tiles with Style created a truly unique design. Another beautiful installation by Dave Andrade of cadesignbuild@yahoo.com. The yellow, round glass gems were used to create bubbles in the ceramic tile, honu / sea turtle mosaic, and match the clients cabinet color.
